This work is inspired by events/experiences from my life.
These works are generally either oil or acrylic painted on either wood or canvas.
While traveling in Denmark this summer, I had an opportunity to attend the world premiere ballet of the Royal Danish Opera presentation of “Chopin Danser”, performed by the Danish Dance Theater. The performance was held at the Copenhagen Opera House, designed by architect Henning Larson. The dance took place in the lobby, which is a spectacular space of glass walls, elevated walkways, and the beautiful curved wooden shell of the opera hall. This scene is near the end of the ballet with a male and female dancer moving in sync to a live piano rendition of Chopin.
"Danish Ballet", 48" x 48", acrylic on wood panel, 2017.
This painting was inspired by a series of poses in a life drawing session in Joshua Tree, CA. Each pose was a 2 minute pose that was juxtaposed within the same sketch.
"Eight Female Figures", 24" x 36", Acrylic on wood panel, 2017.
Portraits of family, friends, life drawing and other sources of inspiration.
"Portrait of a Woman", from a life drawing session in Joshua Tree, CA.
It is acrylic on wood panel, 12″ x 16″.

These compositions are derived from drawings that typically arise from memory from personal experiences.
This painting was inspired from my experiences of weekly commutes during 2010-2013 from Phoenix, Arizona to Twentynine Palms, California to work.
The general motif is a driver in an automobile as seen from outside of the passenger side, as if viewed much like an architectural section. The composition evolved across numerous sketches, drawings, and paintings.
"Driving to California", 56" x 72", acrylic on canvas, 2012.
Ink drawings on paper, typically using Sumi ink, somethings combined with other media.
I visited Copenhagen in the summer of 2017 with my family. This is a scene from our first day in Copenhagen. We were grocery shopping, and a local lady stopped to help us figure out the different types of milk.

These works are created with a variety of materials, and are an important aspect of my experimentation with materials in developing concepts or motifs for other work.
"Train Ride in Washington, DC", 8.5" x 11", graphite, charcoal and printed newsprint on paper, 2015.

This was inspired by an episode from personal experience.
This is a study drawing inspired by my train ride on the Washington, DC Metro, catching the train at the Le’Enfant Plaza Station after the gathering commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March.

These are watercolors or watercolor and ink on paper. I really enjoy the fluid nature of the media, and it is well suited to the desert environment of my studio - it's all about the hydration!

Inspired by a hiking trip that my family went on with David Sandum, Norwegian Artist, in the vicinity of Mölndahl, Sweden during a sudden rainstorm that had blown in from the North Sea. We were scrambling across rocks on the coast when we were overtaken by the storm - what a great adventure!
